The Ultimate All-Purpose Excuse - April 4

Let's just say I was caught out just a little too late one night when they started that whole "kids under 18 can't be driving around after 1:00 am" law came out. Stupid if you ask me, if my parents are okay with me being out then I think I should be allowed to be out and about if I please. Not like we were really causing any problems we were just out to tag some cars with car chalk. So, when the old cop pulls up we all just try to act normal, if that is possible, when your heart is beating out of your chest because your mom would be furious if her fellow co-worker tells her about this run-in with the cops. I tried hiding in the back of the group at this point because mom would not care that I was out past the “curfew” but she would care that I had a run-in with the cops even if it was just to scare us a bit. So, when asked what we were doing our original excuse was the truth but looking back, if I had “more balls” as you may say, I probably would have come up with this Ultimate Excuse: “Officer, we are all just hanging out here because we were going to the Project Prom event but got to the doors about 1 minute too late and the parents up there locked us out. Then we debated driving home but if you had pulled us over we would be in trouble because it is already past curfew so now we are just hanging out here in the parking lot biding time till the curfew lifts at 5:00 am so we can get back in our cars and drive on home. The law says that we can’t “DRIVE” between 1-5 am so technically we aren’t breaking any laws at the moment, just hanging out here until we can head on home.” I mean the officer that pulled up to get on to us did tell us to get in our cars and drive home knowing we were underage for the curfew driving time. How were we supposed to know he wasn’t going to pull us over then and give us a ticket? Probably would have been a smart remark that got me in a lot of trouble but the officer was the one that asked us to break the law and head on home.
