Hello everyone out there that is taking the time to read and follow my blog! I can't wait to share some of my life and future goals with you through this Personal Writing Portfolio. I am completing the Personal Writing Portfolio while my Creative Writing students at PCHS do the same. I thought it would be good to give them examples for each post so I will be completing posts as they do their own each day. That way we (my students and I) are all on the same page and are all taking part in the Creative Writing process of writing about ourselves!! I look forward to reading what my students write and learning more about them as many of them prepare to graduate high school in May and others are just ready for their turn as seniors to finally arrive. It is a bittersweet moment in their lives, one I experienced not too long ago and I remember the stress, the tears, the happy moments that came along with graduating high school and becoming an adult.
I guess I really should have started by telling you more about myself than my students so here it goes:
I am currently in my 4th year of teaching at the Pierce City School District. I began my teaching career in the Middle School building teaching 6th grade math and 8th grade science, the following year I was teaching 6th and 8th grade science. I never enjoyed science as a student but loved teaching the subject! However, my heart was always set on being in the High School setting so the following year I became one of two English teachers at the High School. I teach English II to the Sophomore group and then two upper level English courses, English IV and Motivational Literature/Creative Writing electives for Juniors and Seniors. (Oh and don't forget the Pre-Algebra class that was thrown into my schedule this year! Which has been a whole new challenge in itself that I enjoy more and more.) Like the title of my blog says, I am a very diverse teacher. I have certifications that would allow me to teach grades 1-12, they include, childhood education, math 6-12, science 6-9, and English 9-12. I have also just added Secondary Counseling to my education superpowers and am going to be a guidance counselor at Aurora High School next school year! (happy dance for me!)
Speaking of counseling, maybe by the time this blog is posted in April I will already have a job lined out. Words cannot describe how excited I am to start this new chapter in my life. This last year has brought me so many good things, I graduated from Missouri State University December 14th with my Masters in Secondary Counseling, then two weeks later I married my best friend during a wonderful New Years Eve wedding, the best part was honeymooning in Jamaica where we got to relax on the beach everyday. My life feels as if it is all falling into place...
